Right after the horror of finding out that Hockey Canada knew of at least one incident of sexual assault, the 2018 case in London, Ont., came the horrifying news for parents that the registration fees they paid for their kids to play the game were funneled into a slush fund. The Ontario Hockey Federation is looking at a similar move, making sure junior hockey fees don’t end up in a slush fund to pay off sexual assault victims. Hockey Quebec’s board of directors has voted to withhold the $3 per child fee that is attached to their registration from Hockey Canada. Maybe the withholding of fees from minor hockey players will make them see the light and finally kick president Scott Smith and those around him to the curb.
